The Balance of Beauty

This person was never the one to command all the attention in a room at once.

If anything, this person may have been the quietest presence there.

Calm and confident, this person carried an ease that suggested a deep comfort with who they were.

Their presence spread through a room the way a fragrance slowly fills a space. It never captured your attention immediately, yet before long, you found it impossible to look away.

That kind of person.

There is a kind of beauty that cannot be explained at first glance.

Perhaps it resembles a masterpiece refined through countless trials and revisions—something distilled until only its essence remains.

The experiences accumulated along the way.

The knowledge gained over time.

The discernment to know what to cultivate and what to make our own.

The years spent engaging sincerely with beautiful things.

An unwavering sense of self.

A refusal to compromise.

And a sense of playfulness born from confidence.

This person is, in truth, the image of a beautiful human being that I aspire to.

As we grow older, there is something that becomes increasingly important in fashion.

Balance.

What we choose.

How we combine things.

What we add and what we take away.

How much playfulness we leave room for.

How much of the spirit of the moment we allow into our lives.

When we are young, our choices themselves become our identity.

While we are still shaping our sense of self, there is often a period when we try on the images of brands and imagined versions of ourselves, experimenting repeatedly as we search for our own outline.

As we grow older, however, something curious happens.

Sometimes the label becomes visible before the person.

And when that happens, the individuality and charm that make someone unique can begin to disappear behind it.

The great luxury houses and the pieces that have become icons of fashion today are built upon decades of craftsmanship, ideas, and stories. There is value in appreciating them, and there is richness in experiencing them.

At the same time, there are many other choices available to us.

Young brands led by designers who have developed a fresh perspective on the world after building their careers at major fashion houses.

Independent brands that have established a universe entirely their own.

Voices that offer something unlike anything else.

Fashion requires us to keep updating our knowledge and experiences.

A new silhouette.

A new fabric.

A new balance.

A sensitivity to the changing mood of the times.

These things are essential if we wish to continue evolving ourselves.

Yet I believe they become most beautiful when they are first absorbed, made our own, and then expressed again through our individuality.

The person should always remain the protagonist.

And this is precisely why balance matters.

Knowledge, experience, quality, and trends all exist to enhance the charm of the person wearing them.

Perhaps those who can dress in this way possess that rare beauty that cannot be fully explained at first glance.

And perhaps these are the very people who give younger generations hope for what lies ahead.

So what can we do today?

Perhaps we can begin by setting aside the pride of the inner critic and allowing ourselves to accept who we are right now—and express it.

Each of us begins from a different place.

But this person was not always this person.

There must have been uncertainty.

Experimentation.

Mistakes.

And choices made again and again.

Perhaps it was through that repetition that this quiet presence was formed.

The gatekeeper standing before the towering gate is already prepared to open the door to freedom and adventure.

All that remains is to walk through.

So today, what will you learn?

What wisdom will you make your own?

For your beautiful adventure.

最初に目を奪われることはなくても、気づけば目が離せなくなっている。

そんなひと。

一見するだけでは説明できない存在の美しさ、というものがあります。

それは、何度も試行錯誤を重ねて生み出された、最も削ぎ落とされた美しい逸品に似ているのかもしれません。
そこに辿りつくまでの、たくさんの経験と知識。
美しいものと真摯に向き合った時間。
揺るがない軸と、妥協のない姿勢。
そして、自信から生まれる遊び心。

そのひととは、実は、私が描いている美しい人間像です。

ファッションにおいて、年齢を重ねるほど大切になるものがあります。
それは「加減」です。

何を選ぶのか。
どのように組み合わせるのか。
どこまで足し、どこで引くのか。
どのくらい遊び心を残し、どのくらい今の空気を取り入れるのか。

若い頃は、選択そのものが個性になります。
自分の軸を形づくる段階では、ブランドのイメージや仮の人格を纏いながら、試行錯誤を繰り返し、自分という輪郭を探しているような時期があります。
けれど大人になると、不思議とレーベルが先に見えてしまうことで、せっかく持っているその人自身の魅力や個性が隠れてしまうことがあります。

今もトレンドを牽引するハイブランドのアイテムや名品と呼ばれるものには、長い時間をかけて培われた技術や思想や物語があります。
そこに敬意を払うことにも意味がありますし、それを楽しむことはとても豊かな経験です。

一方、新しい感性で時代を捉え、ハイブランドでのキャリアを経て、自らのブランドでメッセージを発信する若手のブランドや、他に類を見ない独自の世界観を確立するインディペンデントブランドなど、さまざまな選択肢があります。

ファッションにおいては、アップデートされた知識や体験が欠かせません。

新しいシルエット。
新しい素材。
新しいバランス。
時代の空気を感じ取る感性。

そうしたものは、自分を更新し続けるために必要な要素でもあります。

けれど、それらはいったん自分のものにして再表現されるのが美しいと思うのです。あくまで、そのひと自身が主役になるように。
そこで大事なのが「加減」というわけです。

知識も、経験も、上質なものも、トレンドも、そのひとの魅力を引き立てるために存在している。

そんな着こなし方ができるひとこそ、「一見するだけでは説明のできない存在の美しさ」を持っているような気がするのです。
そして、そういう大人こそ、若い世代に希望を与えてくれる存在になるのではないかと思います。

では、今日から何ができるのでしょう。

まずは自分の中にいる「批評家」という名のプライドを少し脇に置いて、今の自分を受け入れ、表現し始めること。
人によってスタート地点は異なります。
けれど、そのひとも最初からそのひとだったわけではないはずです。
迷い、試し、失敗し、また選び直す。

その繰り返しの先に、あの静かな存在感が生まれたのでしょう。

目の前に高くそびえる門の前に立つ「門番」は、いつでも自由と冒険への扉を開く準備をしています。
あとは、その門をくぐるだけ。

さて、今日、あなたは何を学び、何を会得するでしょう。

For a long time, fashion moved forward through novelty.

What should we buy next?

What is trending?

What is new?

A new silhouette. A new color. A new bag. A new pair of shoes.

In many ways, fashion evolved through replacement.

Yet the atmosphere feels different today.

We have called this the era of styling, but perhaps what is really happening is something deeper.

We are entering an era of self-expression.

Of course, this shift did not happen overnight.

It may sound simplistic to keep referring to a post-pandemic world, but that period undeniably changed our relationship with ourselves.

Many people were forced to pause and spend time confronting who they really were.

At the same time, an interesting phenomenon emerged.

People gravitated toward what was already familiar and widely accepted.

Established brands.

Recognizable classics.

Things whose value had already been proven.

This was not merely a trend. It was a psychological response to prolonged uncertainty.

When the world becomes unpredictable, people seek reassurance.

But culture never stands still.

After years marked by isolation, anxiety, and global tensions, I sense another shift taking place.

People seem to be gradually recovering the courage to look at themselves.

And perhaps more importantly, the courage to express themselves.

Not through dramatic reinvention.

But through interpretation.

Fashion today does not seem obsessed with inventing something entirely unprecedented.

Instead, it appears to be building new interpretations upon what already exists, with respect for the history that came before.

We have inherited centuries of design, craftsmanship, and aesthetic knowledge.

Many of the fundamental principles of beauty have already been discovered.

The question now is different.

How do we wear them in a way that feels personal?

How do we bring them into our own lives?

One answer, I believe, is layering.

Layering is often discussed as a styling technique.

Layer a jacket.

Layer a shirt.

Layer jewelry.

Yet true layering is not simply about adding more items.

It is about creating depth.

A layered look reveals traces of thought.

Pause.

Reflect.

Add something.

That process becomes visible through styling.

A scarf tied asymmetrically around the waist.

An extra collar layered over a shirt.

A T-shirt peeking beneath a pullover.

One more necklace added just before leaving home.

These are small gestures.

Yet those small decisions transform style into self-expression.

The mood of fashion today seems to be moving in that direction.

Rather than replacing everything with something new, we combine a designer’s reinterpretation with our own history and the pieces we already own.

We change combinations.

We make familiar things feel fresh again.

We discover joy and creativity in the process.

Creativity emerges from observation.

And I sense another change beginning to take shape in fashion as well.

Over the past few years, the quiet refinement associated with “Quiet Luxury” has resonated with many people.

It reflected a desire for reassurance, stability, and a more mature expression of value during uncertain times.

But now, I believe we are beginning to see the next wave forming beyond it.

A wave that is freer.

More playful.

More creative.

It feels as though fashion is reclaiming its ability to lead us toward exciting new experiences.

Which is why this may be the perfect moment to focus on ourselves.

What do we truly love?

What draws our attention?

What feels natural and authentic?

Layer by layer, we can build a deeper understanding of ourselves.

And the sensibility developed through that process may become the very thing that allows us to embrace what comes next.

Perhaps this points toward a broader cultural shift.

I believe we are searching for a gentler and more human form of individuality.

One that allows differences to coexist rather than compete.

The discomfort and excitement brought by something new.

The comfort and stability found in what already belongs to us.

When those two forces meet—not in opposition, but in harmony—we may discover the shape of the next era.

So when you stand in front of the mirror and feel that your outfit is complete, do not stop there.

Pause for a moment.

Ask yourself what might still be missing.

Listen for what is quietly calling your attention.

Not because you need more clothing.

But because depth often begins with one final choice.

Dialogue of Light -An Exploration of Presence Through Light and Form-

As I listened to the reflections of Simon Alcantara, Christopher Miranda, and Mr. Kuno, I found a common thread running through their understanding of light.

Mr. Kuno is the founder of Ambientec, a Japanese lighting company known for creating portable lighting that bridges technology, craftsmanship, and atmosphere. Throughout his work, he has explored not only how light illuminates a space, but also how it influences the way we feel, remember, and experience the world around us.

For each of them, light is not simply something that allows us to see.

It is something that acts upon us.

Something that influences perception, memory, emotion, and presence.

Mr. Kuno once described the light Ambientec seeks to create as “emotional, sensory light that quietly resonates with human feeling.” That idea feels closely connected to the perspectives shared by Simon and Christopher throughout Dialogue of Light.

Light, in this context, is not an object.

It is an experience.

It is a subtle force that shapes our inner landscape.

During the exhibition, a new artwork titled Sáastal was also unveiled by Simon Alcantara.

Handwoven from his signature loops and chains, the work gently captures and transmits light through its structure, allowing light itself to become part of the piece. The title Sáastal comes from the Mayan language and means “light.”

Looking back, what moved me most about Dialogue of Light was not only the work itself, but the gathering of creative minds from different disciplines—art, sound, design, and craftsmanship—each approaching light through their own language.

And yet, despite those different languages, they seemed to be speaking about the same thing.

The result was more than an exhibition.

It felt like the beginning of a conversation.

One that may continue to unfold in ways we cannot yet see.

Here, I would like to share my conversation with Mr. Kuno on light.

Before it takes form, do you experience light as something that initiates, or something that reveals what is already there?

- For me, light holds two qualities. When we speak of something that emits light, there is not necessarily “something” there—it is a phenomenon, a kind of beauty in itself. At the same time, light that illuminates something reveals the presence of people and the texture of materials. It brings them into perception.

How does light change the way people experience time in a space?

- Light has a profound effect on the flow of time. In bright, even lighting, people tend to become more active. It is suitable for working, moving, and making clear decisions—but time also feels as though it passes more quickly. In contrast, spaces with warmer, slightly dimmed light—like the glow of a sunset—calm the senses. And in darkness, where a single light is present, imagination and concentration deepen, and time begins to feel slower, more expansive.

When working with light, what is the most difficult decision you have to make? And what guides that decision?

With modern technology, light can be made as bright as desired and shifted into any color. In this sense, light is similar to sound—too much of it becomes noise, and certain combinations of tones can create a kind of visual dissonance that feels uncomfortable. The most fundamental judgment is to imagine what kind of environment, shaped by natural light, feels comfortable to people. At the same time, when it comes to more emotional lighting, I feel that the instant you see it—the moment you feel it—your intuition already contains the answer.

What characterizes the light that stays in our memory? Why do certain scenes of light remain with us, even as time passes?

The light that stays in our memory is never just light alone. It is deeply influenced by the scents, sounds, and even tastes we experienced in that moment. When light is intertwined with multiple senses, it does not easily fade. It remains—quietly, but persistently—within us.

How does light influence your state of mind?Can it shift the way you think or feel, beyond what is visible?

I believe light has a profound effect on our state of mind.For example, under strong, bright daylight on a clear afternoon, our awareness naturally turns outward, making us feel more active and energized. In contrast, within soft and subdued light, the mind begins to settle, and our attention shifts inward. It can even influence the tone of conversations and the depth of our thoughts in that space. The light that Ambientec seeks to create belongs to the latter — emotional, sensory light that quietly resonates with human feeling.

Through this collaboration, what kind of experience do you hope people will have?

There is a presence in Simon’s work that goes beyond mere decoration — a balance of strength and delicacy in the materials, traces of hand craftsmanship, and an ability to draw out the individuality of the person who wears it. When paired with Ambientec’s light, the appearance of the jewelry begins to transform, just as the character of the light itself changes through the jewelry. Through this interaction, I hope people will experience the relationship between objects and light, and between people and space, in a quieter and more intimate way.

Dialogue of Light -An Exploration of Presence Through Light and Form-

Dialogue by Simon Alcantara x Christopher Miranda

Light speaks every language.

Though it takes different forms depending on where it appears and who receives it, its ability to connect us remains unchanged.

Created for Dialogue of Light, this short film is an exploration of that invisible exchange.

The imagery was created by Simon Alcantara, while the soundscape was composed by Christopher Miranda. Through light, sound, and movement, the work invites us to consider how beauty travels between people without the need for words.

I am delighted to share this work with you.

In the process of creating the film, Simon completed the visual work first, sharing only fragments of its concept and imagery with Chris. By deliberately withholding the finished film, he trusted Chris to intuit its essence and respond in his own language.

The image and sound were brought together in Kyoto, Japan, just before the opening of the exhibition. I was told that when the two elements finally met, they aligned almost perfectly—as if they had been created from the same source.

Through light, sound, and movement, this film invites us to consider how beauty travels between people without the need for words.

To accompany the film, I would also like to share an interview with Chris from From One To Another, in which he reflects on his relationship with light and the role it plays in shaping perception, memory, and presence.

Before it takes form, do you experience light as something that initiates, or something that reveals what is already there?

- Light feels like something you arrive at. Not a start, but a reveal. It’s already there, you just learn how to see it.

How does light change the way people experience time in a space?

- Light sets the tempo. Soft light slows everything down. Stronger light moves energy forward. Same space, different timing.

When working with light, what is the most difficult decision you have to make? And what guides that decision?

- The hardest part is not overworking it. Letting it stay honest. To follow its natural qualities, To not make it louder or softer than it already is.

What characterizes the light that stays in our memory? Why do certain scenes of light remain with us, even as time passes?

- The light that stays is quiet. Open, still, not forced. It can feel like a vibration that stays with you through time.

How does light influence your state of mind? Can it shift the way you think or feel, beyond what is visible?

- It shifts how I think. When I’m in the light, I’m less scattered, more focused. Like things fall into place without effort.

Through this collaboration, what kind of experience do you hope people will have?

- I want it to feel steady. Something you recognize without needing to explain it.

The more I read Chris’s reflections, the more I feel that light is less about illumination and more about attention.

It is not always the brightest light that stays with us.

Sometimes it is the quiet light that arrives gently,
asks for nothing,
and remains long after the moment has passed.

Perhaps that is what Simon and Chris found in Kyoto.

Not a new light,

Light is often thought of as something that helps us see.

Yet in Dialogue of Light, Simon Alcantara invites us to consider light differently—not as illumination, but as presence.

In the latest issue of FROM ONE TO ANOTHER, I spoke with Simon about light, perception, memory, atmosphere, and the experience he hopes to create through his collaboration with Ambientec.

I would like to share a part of that conversation here.

Before it takes form, do you experience light as something that initiates, or something that reveals what is already there?

- I do not think we perceive light before it takes form. We encounter it through its interaction with form, surface, and atmosphere. In my experience, light is an initiator as well as a revealer. It can reveal texture and atmosphere already present, but it can also initiate sensory experience: it can alter mood, regulate or dysregulate the nervous system, create feelings of comfort or discomfort, and shape how we remember a moment. In my work, I have come to realize that the same object or space can become entirely different through light. Light does not just expose; it also composes.

How does light change the way people experience time in a space?

- Light changes the tempo of our experience and can lead us to linger, pause, move more quickly, or feel suspended within a space. Daylight helps regulate our circadian rhythm, while sunrise, sunset, and moonlight affect how we experience time both physically and emotionally. Even scientifically, we comprehend vast distances through light and the time it takes to travel. Light is one of the clearest ways we register time.

When working with light, what is the most difficult decision you have to make? And what guides that decision?

- The most difficult decision is calibration: finding the right balance so that the light feels harmonious rather than over-controlled. The goal is for the light to feel discovered, not imposed. What guides that decision is whether the light enhances the material, the space, and the atmosphere without overpowering them. Light that is well composed leaves no evidence of having been calibrated.

What characterizes the light that stays in our memory? Why do certain scenes of light remain with us, even as time passes?

- What characterizes memorable light is not a technical property, but a felt condition. It is not necessarily the light itself that we remember, but how we felt within the atmosphere that contained it. The emotions and sensations we experienced in those moments can remain with us for a lifetime.

How does light influence your state of mind?

- Can it shift the way you think or feel, beyond what is visible?Within a space, the atmosphere shaped by light can alter my mood and state of mind, and it can have a visceral effect on me. Beyond what is visible, light is felt in the body and in the nervous system. If it is not harmonious, I feel it immediately and will change it if I can. On a natural scale, experiencing sunrise or sunset is where the effect of light is most profound. It is an essential component of my well-being.

Through this collaboration, what kind of experience do you hope people will have?

- I hope that they will pause and notice the different elements of Dialogue of Light and feel beauty and harmony within the experience. I hope it raises questions, and that they leave surprised, delighted, and inspired.

What stayed with me after this conversation was the idea that light is not simply something we see.

It shapes atmosphere, influences memory, affects the body, and quietly changes the way we experience a moment.

About FROM ONE TO ANOTHER

FROM ONE TO ANOTHER is a seasonal publication by THE SALON by NORH.

First launched in November 2024, it was created with the hope that fashion, creativity, craftsmanship, and perspectives on living beautifully might meet in one place—and, through the hands of those who resonate with them, continue their journey from one person to another.

Each issue brings together creative dialogues, essays, personal reflections, and stories of individuals who offer a different way of seeing the world.

Rather than simply adding to the flow of information, I hope these pages offer a moment to pause, reflect, and look at ourselves and the world around us from a new perspective.

This June, we published our third issue.

Over the coming weeks, I will be sharing selected conversations and essays from its pages. As a beginning, I would like to start with the Epilogue, the final piece of the issue.

Looking back, I feel that this text became the true starting point of the entire issue.

Epilogue

In 2026, I sometimes find myself wondering how this era will be seen and understood in the future. Who could have imagined that we would speak so seriously about the relationship between humans and AI, or the unseen side effects of social media? And yet, here we are—right in the midst of it. Perhaps that is why I feel naturally drawn to those who choose to live not in fear, but in love and appreciation, together with the people closest to them.

The photograph was taken in Paris this January. When I saw my reflection in a mirror placed high on the ceiling, it felt as though I was observing both myself and the world from a slight distance—almost from somewhere beyond. Life is not long enough to remain in fear. And yet, it is not too short either.

To let life shine, to illuminate one another, and to honor each other—we are, perhaps, given just enough time.

On this beautiful planet, there are still places where we can feel a gentle warmth and a clear, fresh breeze.

May we continue to find them, and pass them on—from one to another.

Building The Foundation #BF002

One day, a dress you once loved no longer feels quite right.

Many people experience this feeling during periods of transition.

A new role.
A new landscape.
A different rhythm of life.

Sometimes the change is visible.
Sometimes it is so subtle that even we struggle to explain it.

And when it appears, it arrives not as a thought, but as a feeling.

A blouse that once felt effortless now feels a little too sweet.

A minimalist wardrobe that felt comfortable for years suddenly seems to be missing something.

The clothes themselves have not changed.
What has changed is the relationship between the clothes and the person wearing them.

When this happens, people often assume they have lost something.

“Maybe I’m just getting older.”

But in reality, it is rarely that simple.

More often, it is a signal from within.

A quiet invitation asking us to reconsider how we wish to express ourselves today.

Life is long, and we move through many chapters.

Each chapter asks something slightly different of us.

Sometimes we need softness.
Sometimes we need boldness.

Sometimes a part of ourselves that had gone unnoticed quietly steps forward.

The goal is not to abandon who we once were.

The goal is to remain curious about who we are becoming.

In my experience, people who once loved romantic and feminine clothing may eventually begin to see that version of themselves as outdated.

On the other hand, those who have long embraced simplicity may suddenly realize they have become confined by it—losing a sense of freedom and unintentionally placing themselves inside a box of their own making.

Neither is a mistake.

Neither is a betrayal of the self.

It is simply growth expressing itself through clothing.

The self that changes deserves our attention.

The self that remains deserves our respect.

When both are allowed to coexist, style becomes richer, deeper, and more compelling.

So when something no longer feels quite right, try not to compare yourself with who you used to be.

Try not to force a solution.

Try not to resist.

Instead, pause for a moment.

Step back and look at yourself from a distance.

What is beginning to change within you?

And what has remained unchanged all along?

The sensitivity that helps us notice changes within ourselves also helps us notice changes in the world around us.

I do not mean consuming more news or chasing every trend.

In fact, too much information can make it harder to sense what is truly happening.

Just as people have moods, every era has its own atmosphere.

Some periods call for softness.

Others call for optimism, restraint, courage, elegance, or playfulness.

These shifts are rarely announced.

They emerge gradually, quietly, and often in unexpected places.

In conversations.
In art.
In the way people gather and travel.

In the interiors they create.
In the fashion that begins to appear on the streets.

When we become aware of these subtle changes, something interesting happens.

We no longer need to chase trends.

We begin to encounter them naturally.

The small shifts we feel within ourselves often resonate with larger shifts taking place around us.

Style then becomes less about following fashion and more about participating in the time we live in.

What matters is keeping the door open to the world.

Not rushing toward it, nor shutting it out, but listening carefully from a thoughtful distance.

And when something suddenly catches your attention—

something that feels unexpectedly fresh or strangely meaningful—

consider that it may not be an accident at all.

It may be a sign.

Likewise, it is worth noticing what no longer moves you.

What once felt exciting but now leaves you untouched.

There is wisdom in that, too.

And rather than fearing change, learn to observe it, appreciate it, and even enjoy it.

That does not mean being swept away by the current.

It simply means learning how to navigate it in your own way.

What is one thing you would like to gently update about the person you see in the mirror?

Perhaps the first step is simply to accept it all.

To appreciate the version of yourself that has walked with you this far,
and to honor the journey that brought you here.

And then,

if you were to place a new filter over who you are today,

what color would it be?

What texture would it have?

What mood would it carry?

The self that changes,
and the self that remains.

Holding space for both,

perhaps it is time to discover the person waiting in your next chapter.

After all, the wheel of your life remains, as it always has, firmly in your hands.

When we think about “color” in fashion, most people’s minds jump straight to accent colors.

Red shoes. A yellow bag. A green scarf.

But before that, there’s another color worth considering.

The background color.

Think of it like a canvas — the base tone a painting rests upon.

Chalk white, eggshell ivory, grayish green, slate gray, charcoal, greige, ink black.

Quiet colors. Architectural colors.

The kind you find in carefully considered spaces — gallery walls, hotel lobbies.

When we get too attached to things, we lose sight of the background color.

Think like an architect. Direct like a filmmaker.

That means deciding on the atmosphere before choosing the objects.

Light, temperature, texture.

And the emotional tone of the scene itself.

Is this story cold, or warm? Sharp, or nostalgic? Urban, or poetic?

An architect thinks the same way — before the details come the space, the world being created.

The colors a place holds.

The harmony — or impact — of an exterior.

The color of a wall. The texture of a floor.

What light enters, and from which direction, in the morning. How the 4 o’clock sun falls.

How much darkness the night is allowed to hold.

Styling is really much the same.

Building from a matte, dense pure white or chalk white creates an entirely different emotional space than building from charcoal gray.

Perhaps that’s the quality you sense in someone who, without seeming to try, looks effortlessly harmonious with their surroundings — as though they carry the atmosphere within them.

In a stark, inorganic modern art museum, someone dressed in ink black makes the architecture itself look sharper.

In an Art Deco restaurant, someone in warm ivory looks as though they’ve always belonged to that room.

Their presence completes the space.

Travel makes this even clearer.

The colors that feel natural in Milan are subtly different from those in Paris or London. And so what you pack shifts, almost instinctively, depending on where you’re going.

Because every city has its own color language.

Stone, sky, rain, wood, metal, the color of the taxis on the street.

Morning mist, dusk, the particular gray that lives inside old buildings.

Perhaps asking yourself, “What kind of atmosphere do I want to belong to today?” gives style a deeper meaning — something useful not just for the day, but for life itself.

The moment we notice someone, there are a few things we instantly perceive.

If perception moves from the abstract toward the detailed, perhaps the first thing we recognize is a kind of energy — and then, silhouette.

Energy can feel like someone is relaxed, hurried, open, playful, guarded, or quietly confident.

And silhouette is, quite simply, the outline.

The balance of volume.
The width of the shoulders.
The relationship between weight and lightness.
The tension and rhythm within a shape.

Silhouette leaves such a strong impression because, long before fashion arrives as “information,” it already communicates presence.

And interestingly, our sensitivity to silhouette did not begin with fashion.

Before we speak about silhouette in clothing, beautiful silhouettes already exist everywhere around us.

In architecture.
Typography.
Sculpture.
Furniture.
Nature.

The curve of a wine glass.
The balance of a cathedral.
The proportions hidden within letters.
The asymmetry of tree branches.
The sharpness of a mountain ridge.

We understand these things instinctively, long before we analyze them intellectually.

Because human beings live under gravity.

Our bodies are constantly searching for balance.

Stability.
Equilibrium.
Harmony.

At the same time, perfect balance can sometimes feel slightly predictable.

Wearing Presence

“What if there were no jewelry?”

For me, it would feel almost like going out without make-up.

Not because jewelry is merely decoration, but because it changes presence.

In my late teens, I came across a ring in a jewelry shop.
It was a large black rutilated quartz surrounded by silver.

I still remember the feeling.

That ring marked the beginning of my history with jewelry.

Until then, I believed style was created mainly through clothing.
But the moment I placed that ring on my finger, something shifted.

Compared to an entire outfit, a ring is only a very small element.
And yet, somehow, everything changed.

I felt more confident.
A slightly mysterious aura appeared around me.
And for some reason, I felt braver.

Sometimes, the smallest detail can transform the entire atmosphere of a person.
Jewelry unquestionably has that kind of power.

A few years later, when I began my career in the fashion industry, I worked at a select shop centered around beautiful basics.

Carefully crafted white shirts made in menswear factories.
Delicate Italian high-gauge knitwear.
Tailored jackets and trousers.

In a world of womenswear often focused on design and novelty, it was an incredible environment in which to learn the depth of quality, construction, and timeless essentials through menswear craftsmanship.

Beautiful basics create elegance and a clean foundation.
But for women, I felt something was missing.

Everything looked polished. Refined.
Yet somehow, slightly too perfect. Slightly too predictable.

I began asking myself what that missing element was.

Perhaps women who appreciate simplicity and quality also need a certain elegance of glamour — a refined sense of playfulness.

Something that softens perfection slightly.
Something that reveals individuality and creates emotion.

That was jewelry.

Not traditional jewelry reserved only for special occasions, nor commercial accessories.

But jewelry created by thoughtful designers pursuing authenticity — pieces meant to live naturally within everyday life.

Ordinary jewelry could be found anywhere.

So I started searching for something rarer: designer’s high jewelry with a stronger sense of expression and identity.

What fascinated me was the balance.

The materials were real.
But the designs felt lighter, freer, and more modern than conventional fine jewelry.

They could be worn with denim.
With simple tailored trousers.
With a white shirt, a jacket, or even a dress.

Luxurious, yet completely alive within daily life.

To me, jewelry feels like a quiet spotlight.

Once a style is complete, adding earrings, necklaces, rings, or bangles gradually brings light into the look.

And depending on the choice and combination, the entire direction of styling can shift.

Clean.
Mysterious.

In a world where AI continues to streamline and replace many forms of work, perhaps what will become increasingly important for human beings is the pursuit of what feels beautiful, joyful, and emotionally alive.

the first key to understanding Chic.

Of course, not everything can be explained.

That unexplainable quality is part of elegance itself.

But by learning these eight perspectives,

Quality truly exists.

In a world overflowing with things,

I hope more people will pause—

even for a moment—

and begin to notice it,

to pay attention,

and to understand it.

But understanding quality is not simple.

Because it is not something

that can be explained and understood through words alone.

It can only be understood

through experience.

We come to understand “quality”

through comparison.

And what matters most

is to actually touch it.

When I first began working as a buyer,

my mentor told me:

“Unless you first touch the fabric,

you will never understand the garment.”

Since then,

I have always made it a habit

to touch fabrics.

As experience accumulates,

your sensitivity begins to change.

You start to notice subtle differences.

The slight tension or softness,

the weight, the density,

the way the surface changes in luster when touched,

and even the colors that compose it.

These are not things

the mind can fully explain.

They are remembered

by your hands,

and by your body.

So then—what is “high quality”?

It is difficult to define completely.

But there is one thing

I can say with certainty.

High quality is something

that has been carefully chosen

and carefully made

by experienced hands.

Throughout this process,

what remains consistently important

at every stage

is care.

Care in selecting raw materials.

Care in creating the materials.

Care in crafting the product.

Care in inspection,

and care in delivery.

And within that care,

what accumulates

is time

and dedication.

Time includes

the techniques and culture

that have been built over years.

It also includes

the time required

from production to completion,

and to delivery.

Dedication belongs

to the people involved—

those who face the material,

adjust it,

question it,

and bring it to completion.

Objects made in this way

carry something—

almost like a message

embedded within them.

And those who have trained their senses

to understand quality

can feel it instantly.

But this does not mean

that the highest quality

is always the best choice.

Designers sometimes

intentionally choose roughness.

They use strongly twisted yarns,

apply washes to create texture,

or even introduce damage.

This is not a degradation,

but a deliberate decision.

To create ease.

To bring openness.

To add nuance.

So this is not about

good or bad.

What matters is this:

If you cannot feel quality,

if you do not understand it,

you will miss something important.

Not only the object itself,

but also the message within it—

and even the “frequency”

it carries.

That is why

understanding quality matters.

To understand it,

to discern it,

and to consciously choose

what level you want to live with.

So what I would recommend is this:

Take a moment.

Slow down.

And face the object.

Then—

touch it.

Feel it.

Look for the details.

And try to receive

the message from the people who made it.

What I find especially interesting is this:

When something is made without care,

I feel nothing.

But when something is made with care,

I can sense a kind of presence—

even from a distance.

From this point of view,

I believe human beings

still hold something deeply valuable.

We can feel

what lies beneath the surface—

time,

dedication,

intention.

We can perceive it.

We can recognize it.

We can read it.

Artificial intelligence

is an excellent tool,

and in many ways

it supports us.

But there are things

it cannot replace.

The sensitivity

to perceive the depth

embedded in objects—

and the time and dedication

that give them that depth.

That is why

I am drawn to things

that are made with care.

And why I want to continue

to carefully find them—

and bring them to others.

Its colors can echo your makeup,
gently connecting with the tones of your lips and eyes.

And the mood of the print may even inspire
